Today we went to Halswell Quarry for the Longest Day.
Jimmy from Sports Canterbury had set up some awesome challenges for us involving carrying objects around the quarry, up and down hills and back and forwards across the flat planes. We had to work in four teams, carrying an emergency water supply, a bucket of water and a 20m rope. Easy we thought... we were wrong! They were heavy and the water spilled out really easily!
Jimmy had made a map for us of the quarry, and at each of the 8 stations he had set up activities for us to complete as a team. These included a tug of war, lillypad island and running up and down the hill as many times as possible. By lunch time, we were exhausted and really happy to have a sit down!
After lunch Mrs Scott took us for HIIT using a tabata timer. This gives 20 seconds of exercise and then a 10 minute rest for four minutes. We did exercises such as tuck jumps, burpees, push ups, squats, lunges, mountain climbers and prone holds. We then finished off with skipping.
After all of this exercise, a highlight for many was a stretch and release session with Mrs Young - we would have loved to have stayed there stretching all afternoon!
