Our amazing writing!
We were given the theme "The face of..." to write about. We could choose either a poem or a story.
After brainstorming what makes writing really interesting and how to write fantastic stories, this is what we came up with - we are pretty proud!
We are super proud of Tobias who was awarded a Highly Commended award from GAW for his writing - congratulations Tobias!
The Face of Fear
When I was at the beach with my friends we were going into the calm, sparkling water but… I didn’t, I was feeling scared. My hands were clenched in fright. My friends were encouraging me to dive, my eyes started to stare into the distance. My feet were standing on the boiling hot sand. Suddenly I thought “I can do it!” I slowly touched the calm water, feeling like I collapsed into the water. I rushed back to the bumpy rock. I was terrified.
My friends were excited that I had tried, but my heart didn’t let me.
“Next time.” I said.

The Face of Heat
On the hot, stinky beach with my friends I was feeling brave. My forehead is sweating, my blood is running fast and my heart is beating like a silly clown on a motorbike. I slowly put it into my mouth. Spicy fireworks fill my gob. I swallow it whole, determined to win.
“That was gross, now pay up!”

The Face of Fear
I was standing in a massive diving boat in Muriwai Beach watching the fierce bull sharks attacking some little fish. I was worried they might charge at me, shaking the boat, making me fall. I slid slowly, feet first into the wavy water. I was shaking like the wind pushing a tree. My teeth were clutching together and I was biting my fingernails.
He carefully swam up to me. I tried to be brave, but horrified shaking went through my scared body. I quickly climbed back into the safety of the boat.
“Next time I’ll do it” I say to my friends.

The Face of Thunder
I was biking home from school when suddenly a dark thunderstorm came in and almost blew my bike tyre off. I rushed home and up to my mum’s room to find her calmly reading a book.
“There’s a big thunderstorm and my bike tyre has a hole!”
We looked outside and saw the chilly wind trying to blow the blossoming trees over. As we watched, lightning struck and hit the open grass. I told mum we had to find a safe shelter, so we ran to our underground shelter and stayed there until the thunderstorm was finished.
When the thunderstorm was finished our dog Rusty was lying down, struck by the ginormous thunderstorm. We took Rusty to the pet hospital for the whole month… Rusty was good as new!

Stage Fright Fear
I can hear the sound of my own footsteps, the creaking floor boards underneath my feet. The audience clapping every step I take. The microphone squeaks and squeals as my mouth breathes my dry, sweaty breath. My heart pounds as fast as a cheetah can pounce. My mouth slowly opens, I am lost for words. “ uh uh ..... nexttt weee willll singgggg dynimiteeee puttt yourr singinggg voices on!’’
My shaky words I could not understand. People in the audience looking confused at me like “what did you say?’’ My feelings drop, ashamed and lonely. “Good one mate!’’ my friends smirk and laugh at me.
“I am never doing that again! ’ My emotions run free.
There is dead silence throughout the assembly hall. All the bold eyes staring at me with shock!!!

The Face of My Face
Masking my face from the world
Ashamed to show it
Smirks on all the beautiful faces
Knowing not even kind people care
I slowly take off the sweaty mask
Now everyone can see the ugly face behind it
Gripping the mask tightly, I proudly say “This is my real face!”
